Requesting an EHCP
In England, parents and schools can request an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA). You do not need the school’s permission to apply.
What to include in your request
- Describe your child’s needs and how they affect daily life.
- Explain what support school has tried so far.
- Attach any reports or evidence you have.
What happens next
The local authority usually has a set time frame to decide whether to assess. If they refuse, you have the right to appeal.
