EHCP Overview
An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document that describes a child’s needs and the support a local authority must provide.
Who EHCPs are for
Children whose needs are so significant or complex that they cannot be met through SEN Support alone.
What an EHCP can include
- Description of special educational needs.
- Specified provision (what support must be provided).
- School placement.
- Health and social care needs where relevant.
EHCPs are not only for children who are many years behind academically. Emotional, sensory and social needs also count.
