EHCP Overview

An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document that describes a child’s needs and the support a local authority must provide.

Who EHCPs are for

Children whose needs are so significant or complex that they cannot be met through SEN Support alone.

What an EHCP can include

• Description of special educational needs.
• Specified provision (what support must be provided).
• School placement.
• Health and social care needs where relevant.

EHCPs are not only for children who are many years behind academically. Emotional, sensory and social needs also count.
